After greeting numerous Essex residents as I’ve walked door to door, I’ve listened to many concerns. The following list reflects the issues paramount to Essex residents.
TAXES: Almost 75% of the houses I visited are concerned about the tax burden. Since it is the primary reason I threw my hat into this race, I’m going to work HARD to bring some sanity back to Montpelier and disavow the tax and spend mentality currently in the legislature.
CRIME: Folks are concerned about the encroaching crime and the safety of our neighborhoods.
EDUCATION QUALITY: I’ve listened to a number of people voice their concern over where the EWSD is headed, how the district is spending the $92,000,000 (reduced) budget, and why our educational outcomes keep declining despite record spending.
THE PRISON; Why the seeming secrecy? Why Essex? Will taxpayers have any input or has this prison already been decided?
THE LAKE: Why is Lake Champlain so much more polluted now than it was 30 years ago? What are we doing about it?
I am continuing in my door to door campaign over the next few weeks and will update the above list on a regular basis.
